EVET: Balkan and Middle Eastern Folk Music

Portrait of six musicians smiling and holding instruments

EVET, Turkish for “YES”, offers audiences a musical odyssey, with striking instrumental diversity and vocal nuance that captures a regional mingling of Balkan-inspired musical jubilation. The effervescent melodies and magnetic rhythms hail from diverse Southeastern European and Anatolian sources, traversing these musical landscapes with a spirit that is reverential yet infectious. The region encompassing this music has long represented forces in motion, with borders that are sometimes fixed, sometimes malleable, and always alive and engaging. EVET seeks to honor this complexity through traditional dance music from mountain villages, poetic ruminations from cosmopolitan cities ancient and contemporary, and vertiginous acrobatics of devious beats and dizzying ornaments.
